Solo Exhibitions & Projects
Pingshan Art Museum
Display and Replay indicates the joint work of art, architecture and design, which is also the core of the entire exhibition. How do we display content and vision? How do we reproduce thoughts and perceptions? The exhibition is based on the works of Li Qing, with architect Li Han creating the space and graphic designer Mei Shuzhi in charge of posters and other visual designs.
Li Qing : BLOW-UP
Almine Rech
Overrun with mysteries, fake news, innuendos and double meanings, Blow-Up is a visual wandering in which Li Qing, a leading figure of the new generation of Chinese artists born in the ’80s, confronts us with different ways of understanding, reading, decoding and interpreting the appearances of reality. From painting to installation, sound pieces to video and photography, his work is a verse of contemporary urban poetry engaging in a new logic of visuality.
Galerie EIGEN + ART
Li Qing's first solo exhibition in Germany, EAST OF EDEN, focuses on the cosmopolitan ideals manifested in different periods, different classes and different groups of people in China's urban and rural modernist movement through a series of interesting fragments, especially the public consumerism and society's hypocritical stances on beauty ideals since the 21st century. Among them, different concepts, ideologies and aesthetics collide and conflict, forming a mixed cultural landscape. This theme also forms a kind of intertextual relationship with the history of East Germany and East Berlin where the Galerie EIGEN + ART is located.

This exhibition attempts to present thousands of years of Chinese woodwork techniques while paving the way for the resurgence of wooden architecture in modern time. The main exhibition area follows the theme of ‘Wooden structure, water and craft’ and shows various construction techniques used in some of the most iconic wooden architecture over the course of Chinese history. The rest of exhibit, under the theme of ‘Wooden structure, life and art’, showcases a collection of modern woodware and installations made by contemporary artists.
Long Museum West Bund
Since the middle 20th century, humanistic researches have turned to study the rich content of Space. Michel Foucault (1926-1984) proposed social theories should turn their focus from Time to Space and called the era he lived as “The Epoch of Space”. Fredric Jameson (b.1934), a postmodernism theorist even stated that rather than time, postmodern theory is far more engrossed in space. As a common word in our daily life, “Space” has been frequently used in the discussion of Art History under the influence of Space theories since the 20th century, which not only includes the studies of visual and image space of the artworks, but also expands the studies to their cultural and social meanings.
