“IN THE VICINITY” comes from the poem by Wang Bo “A bosom friend afar brings distant land near”, a metaphor of idealized cosmopolitanism as an outcome of the modernist movement in China since hundreds of years ago, as well as a goal of keeping up with the western world. China has become the melting pot of all sorts of politics and Ideologies. Different notions coexist and mingle, but can't get along all the time.

2013 marks the twentieth anniversary of the participation of Chinese contemporary artists in La Biennale di Venezia; it also marks twenty years of economic, cultural and artistic exchange between China and the West.

Pure Views. Lu Peng, a famous Chinese art historian and curator of Chengdu Museum of contemporary art, planned the exhibition of transformation of Chinese contemporary art, which is an attractive and comprehensive review of Chinese contemporary art at the Santa Monica art exhibition in Barcelona in the summer of 2013.
