LI QING: The Art Museum Suite No1: A Suite of Eight Rooms Plan
Just like subsidiary facilities such as stores and cafes in all other museums, images and materials within the contemporary art institution, including some artistic goods from the museum store and advertisements from art magazines are spread out in the rooms. Some related paintings are exhibited. Li Qing painted virtual landscapes from art magazines on the artificial windows.
This comprehensive suite alludes to the external environment the artist faces today, as well as his individual experience inside. It shows how the subject of contemporary artists are formed by today’s art scenes, but in the meantime they expect to reform the art scenes, which, in a sense, reveals the deficiency of contemporary art. One set of the photography refers to the artist’s reflection on the glass panels when he was shooting works during the show, as if self was indulged in the knowledge and interest of art.
On the other hand, the suite designed by Li Qing is the smallest space unit in Space, a building characterized by small sized space. Every room is the extremely scaled-down version of everyday space, which makes it a weird space in-between everyday space and display space.
