Unaccessible among us, contemporary artistic production in China has gained significant prominence on the international scene in recent decades. It is from this perspective that MAC USP was interested in hosting the Community of Tastes exhibit: contemporary Chinese art since 2000. The presentation of the new Chinese art in this exhibition reveals other facets of that country, besides its undisputed role as one of the protagonists of the contemporary economy in the globalised consumer society.

In the works presented, the possibility of seeing beyond the predictable figuration of socialist realism is the mark of the youngest artists who, unlike previous generations trained in the more traditional means of painting academic traits, turn to research into other languages. Thus, the exhibition presents in a broad and very comprehensive manner the aspects of contemporary Chinese artistic production, including photographs, facilities and paintings.

In Community of Tastes are represented by the most recognized contemporary Chinese artists, such as painters Lao Jiang, Wang Yin, in addition to artists and photographers Cao Fei and Dong Wensheng, allowing the public of Sao Paulo to com e into contact with what is most exciting in terms of art in China today.

For collaborating to strengthen the ties between countries and continents so far away, MAC USP thanks Iberia Center for the Arts, the Spanish academic institution responsible for the international organization of this exhibition.
